I ordered a Kg of mealworms earlier today and just got confirmation that they have been despatched. The supplier hopes I enjoy my purchase
-
Just remember, dont eat them all at once, and I'd recommend sharing them with the birds   xx
-
I keep them in a big plastic tub and every time I open it to get some out I do always think to myself that they actually smell quite tasty in a savoury sort of way - I will nevertheless resist the temptation . Just as a matter of interest, I read today that it's a good idea to soak them in a little water overnight before putting them out particularly when chicks are being fed with them. So I'll try it, I wouldn't want next years robins choking on their breakfast!!
-
Ive heard that about soaking in water too, and I'd like to try that. (Am happy getting dried ones, cant bring myself to go for live ones!) do you know when chick season starts? Xx

Should be nesting now I think, depending on location and weather but they have several broods throughout the year - they lead a busy life.
As far as getting dafter is concerned, I wouldn't really know - I was never lucky enough to get undaft
-
I dont think getting undaft is lucky -i wouldnt like to be undaft -that would require a complete personality change -i,ve always been daft - i was even in the D for daft stream at secondary school.
meal worms -yummy -i bought some last year to feed a poorly hedgehog but like Emz cant bring myself to use live ones not because i am squimish but I,m way too soft -by nightfall they would all be living in a glass tank paradise hotels and have names.
You do know that mealworms are the new lobster in certain circles - but is also being seriousely considered for mass market nutrition -mealworm burger anyone. :coffeetoast:
(Sometimes i,m so glad i,m a veggie.)

I can just see the adverts for MacCritters.....99p for todays special Grilled Mealworm Burger and Flies hmmmmm tasty lol only you could have pet worms Karen and agree with ya better to be daft than normal and boring.
-
I had pet caterpillars when I was a kid.
-
Now why doesn't that surprise me Karen  I bet you gave them all names too like Colin, Clive did you take them out for walks?
ps attached a photo of Cyril

He is a cutie .I don't think I named them there were always too many.I kept them in an old fish tank and feed them leaves until they turned into Chrysalis.Do you ever watch the Durells I was that kid.
And I haven't got a bucket of frogspawn in the utility room waiting for the chances of the pond freezing to end.

Mornin' Brian - I think we all have lots of 'down days', I certainly do but heh-ho it's another sunny morning and England have made it through to the k.o. stages. My cousin in Germany was really down in the dumps about 'his' team - he, unlike me, is really into football .
I don't put fatballs out in the summer, I've found that the birds here don't come for them like they do in the winter. I suppose there's lots of natural food for them. They do however come for the few mealworms I put out each day.
You're very lucky with the range of wildlife you've got up there, what I see is generally much more mundane. The robins make up for it though .
Ah well... time to put the kettle on and get a bowl of "Fruit and Fibre".
