Title: Hi there, I've recently lost my dad
Post by: jackie11 on January 22, 2019, 08:38:12 PM
Hi there, I'm Jackie, I lost my dad on 2nd Jan, it was quite sudden, I didn't think he was that unwell. It will be nice to talk to and get advice from others on here.

Thank you for having me.

When you feel ready tell us about your dad if you like, or anything you'd like to talk about or seek advice on.  We have lovely members here who are all on this journey xx

Thank you @Emz2014, should I do that in this thread? Or start a new one in another section of the forum?

However you'd like to, its relaxed and informal here.  If you'd like to continue on this thread so everything is in one place that's ok. Or if you start a new thread in the other section more people may see your post.  Can have different threads if you want to cover different topics.

Some people have had a diary post, where they post each day on the same thread and are able to go back over their journey and see how they've progressed in time.

If you're unsure at any time, the admins can help move a post if you need. Xx

Thanks again @Emz2014

I don't really know where to start. I feel I kinda neglected my dad, when he got his inhaler I didn't really think anything of it. I knew his lungs weren't perfect but had no idea they were that bad. I think of the times when he didn't hear me properly on the phone and I would get really annoyed with him and think the worst thing. He's the person I love the most more than anyone else. He was such a lovely dad. I don't understand how he deteriorated so quickly. I really thought he had a few more years in him.

Thank you.

Its hard, before we lose someone it is very easy to fall into the trap of kind of taking them for granted, they've always been there and feel like they always will.
Losing my dad shook me to the core - i guess i had just assumed he would be around until an old age.  I tell my loved ones around me how much I appreciate them now - much more sharing with them

I think grief also makes us think of those moments,  those what ifs and should haves xx

@Emz2014 yeah so true, if they've always been there, why would they ever not be there. Damm, I am sorry. Yeah this is making me appreciate my mum and brother a lot more.

Yeah, thank you for you reply :) xx
